M606A Oxygen Index Tester for Flame-Retardant Wood

    Product Introduction
The M606A Oxygen Index Tester is designed to evaluate the combustion characteristics of polymers and other combustible materials by determining the minimum oxygen concentration required to sustain combustion under specified test conditions.
Suitable for flame-retardant wood, plastics, rubber, fibers, foam plastics, artificial leather, films, sheets, and textiles, this oxygen index testing instrument helps laboratories assess material flammability and compare flame-retardant performance.
The instrument is designed with reference to the following standards:
    •    GB/T 5454-1997: Textile Burning Behaviour — Oxygen Index Method
    •    GB/T 2406-2008: Plastics — Burning Behaviour — Oxygen Index Method
    •   GB/T 10707-2008: Rubber — Determination of Burning Behaviour — Oxygen Index Method
    •  GB/T 8924-2005: Test Method for Burning Behaviour of Fiber-Reinforced Plastics

    Performance Features
    •  Dual gas flowmeters: Separate glass rotor flowmeters regulate oxygen and nitrogen flow.
    • Three pressure gauges: Monitor oxygen inlet pressure, nitrogen inlet pressure, and mixed-gas outlet pressure.
    •   Manual ignition device: Dedicated manual igniter supports controlled ignition.
    • Simple operation: Straightforward instrument structure facilitates routine laboratory testing.
    •   Wide oxygen concentration range: Adjustable oxygen concentration from 10% to 60%.
    • Quartz glass combustion tube: Provides a transparent chamber for observing specimen combustion.

    Working Principle
The M606A Oxygen Index Tester mixes oxygen and nitrogen to create a gas atmosphere with a controlled oxygen concentration. A vertically mounted specimen is placed inside the quartz glass combustion tube and ignited under specified test conditions.
The oxygen concentration is adjusted to determine the minimum oxygen volume percentage that can sustain combustion. This value, known as the limiting oxygen index (LOI), is used to evaluate and compare the combustion behavior of different materials. A higher oxygen index generally indicates that a material requires a higher oxygen concentration to sustain burning under the test conditions.

    Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What does the M606A Oxygen Index Tester measure?
It measures the minimum oxygen volume concentration required to sustain combustion under specified test conditions.
Q2: Which materials can be tested?
Typical materials include flame-retardant wood, plastics, rubber, fibers, foam plastics, artificial leather, films, sheets, and textiles, subject to the applicable test method and specimen requirements.
Q3: What is the oxygen concentration adjustment range?
The oxygen concentration can be adjusted from 10% to 60%.
    Q4: Which gases are required?
Industrial-grade oxygen and nitrogen are required. The user must provide the gas supplies.
Q5: What is the size of the combustion tube?
The quartz glass combustion tube has an inner diameter of 75 mm and a height of 350 mm.
Q6: What pressure range do the gauges cover?
The supplied pressure gauges have a range of 0–0.4 MPa.
Q7: Which standards does the M606A support?
The supplied specifications list GB/T 5454-1997, GB/T 2406-2008, GB/T 10707-2008, and GB/T 8924-2005. Confirm current standard editions and test-method compatibility before formal compliance testing.
Q8: Does a higher oxygen index mean better flame resistance?
Generally, yes. A higher oxygen index means a material needs a higher oxygen concentration to sustain combustion under the test conditions. However, it does not replace other fire-safety tests or independently establish a material's overall fire rating.
